Kenneth Stone, better known as Mr. Sax, embarked on his musical journey with a deep-seated passion and a saxophone handed down by his father, a seasoned saxophonist himself. This gift wasn’t just an instrument; it was a legacy that Kenneth embraced wholeheartedly. His journey into the heart of music began in high school, where he first played in the jazz band, marched in parades, and performed classical pieces with the city orchestra. This early exposure not only refined his skills but sparked a lifelong love for performance.
Kenneth’s professional music career truly began to take shape in college at the UMKC Conservatory, an environment that honed his talents and expanded his musical horizons. Here, he delved into diverse genres, from jazz and blues to classical, setting the stage for a versatile career. It was during this time that Kenneth had the opportunity to tour with various bands, sharing stages across the country, which included a notable six-month tour with blues legend Bobby Blues Bland. These experiences on the road were exhilarating, embedding a deep sense of purpose and excitement in performing live.
However, it wasn’t until Kenneth began performing at smaller venues and private events around Kansas City that he realized the profound impact his music could have on people’s lives. Performing at weddings, corporate events, and private parties, he saw firsthand how his music could elevate these occasions, transforming them into deeply memorable experiences. This realization was crystallized during a performance at a local nursing home, where the emotional response of an elderly audience member to a familiar tune confirmed Kenneth’s belief in the power of music to move and connect people.
